How We Came
to be

A group of people sit around a café table, laughing and chatting over coffee and cake, including a person using a wheelchair.

The Monthly Mixer started with a simple idea — to create a space where people can come together, feel comfortable, and build real connections.

We saw how changes in services and routines can affect people’s social lives, sometimes leaving people without a regular place to connect.  We wanted to create something that brings people together in a relaxed environment and in a welcoming way.

The Monthly Mixer is about connection. It’s a space where you can be yourself, meet new people, and reconnect with familiar faces — without pressure or expectation.

It’s not a program or a service — it’s a community space.  A place people can come back to each month, knowing they’ll be welcomed.

Advised by the Community

A group of people sit around a table, smiling and talking during a relaxed group discussion, with notebooks and coffee mugs in front of them.

The Monthly Mixer is a community-led initiative, independent of any external organisation or support workers.

Our events are shaped by people with lived experience of disability, helping ensure each mixer feels welcoming, flexible, and genuinely inclusive.

Everything we do is guided by what the community actually wants — from the types of events we run to how the space feels on the day.

We’re always open to new ideas, suggestions, and feedback.
If you have something you’d like to see at a future mixer, head to our Contact Us page and let us know — we’d love to hear from you.
